The Nigerian Diaspora Electoral Reform Group [NDERG] is a Washington-DC-USA-based non-profit organization, whose main aim is to work with Nigerians and friends of Nigeria both within and outside of Nigeria towards participating in the political, social and electoral reforms in the country. NDERG intends to generally ensure engagement in Nigeria's political process particularly as they impact both Nigerians abroad. The organization was formed by a majority of the twenty (20) Plaintiffs that successfully filed (in May 2007) a lawsuit against INEC and the Attorney-General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria essentially asking that administrative procedures be put in place to ensure that Nigerian citizens of voting age resident anywhere in the world should be able to vote externally in various elections as they hold inside Nigeria. A ruling in favor of the plaintiffs was given on December 18, 2008 by Justice Adamu Bello. The plaintiffs' counsel was human rights activist Mr. Femi Falana, with the able assistance of chamber lawyer Mr. Sola Egbeyinka. |
